Design Styles / Traditional

May 15, 2014

Traditional design may not sound the most exciting and it may not always look it either but at the same time it can be timeless & beautiful. When thinking of traditional design you may think classic, timeless, warm wood tones, wainscoting, and a tailored look just to name a few. Some people may use this design style all throughout their home and others may like to mix in some other design elements like modern, contemporary, industrial, etc. What's great about either of those is that it's easy to do both and still look amazing with traditional design. Personally, traditional is not my taste but I love having a few classic pieces to work with. Here are some pieces that I've chosen with an overall traditional look. Which one is your favorite?

Design Styles / Contemporary Design

May 11, 2014

Simple colors & patterns yet a warm and an inviting atmosphere constitutes contemporary design. Mixed with keepsakes and personal photographs it can be very "homey". It focuses on the simple lines & curves of the 20th century & what is currently in style. On the other hand, it can be very timeless. Modern & contemporary design are used interchangeably but are in fact quite different - a contemporary style incorporates softened lines and curves as opposed to the stark, straight lines in modern design. I chose a bunch of contemporary items so if you're into any of these than you may have met your match!

Here are a bunch of mid-century pieces I've picked out & if you like them you're probably into the mid-century trend like many others, including myself. These pieces are perfect if you want to add some style without looking like you've jumped into a time capsule - they will work great with other design styles as well. Which one is your favorite?

Design Styles / Industrial

May 8, 2014

Have you ever seen an item and thought that it is exactly the type of design style you're into? There are so many different types of design styles - industrial, modern, mid-century, contemporary, traditional, rustic, glamorous, coastal, vintage, eclectic - and that's just to name some. Personally, I like mixing and matching different looks so I would say I have more of an eclectic-chic design style. I love pairing the new with the old and making it look chic and put together. For my next few posts I want to explore these different styles and if you're not sure what you like this may help you find out :)

Industrial design is very trendy right now. When you hear the word industrial you may think metal, piping, salvaged decor, wire, exposed brick and you're pretty much right.
